TEXT I
WHAT IF YOUR FACE WERE A DIFFERENT RACE?
Diana, 39, sales manager – I am a 100% Puerto Rican. My father and mother were both born in Puerto Rico but
met in the United States. My father moved here when I was 9 and my mom at 18. And yet, people always guess I am
anything but Latin. Friends and strangers alike have asked I am Korean or Indian. Even when I am out with my Latin
friends, acquaintances will ask them – in Spanish – if I understand Spanish.
