Para formar sentenças negativas ou interrogativas com o verbo to be no simple past, basta movimentar o verbo, da mesma forma que fazemos quando o usamos no simple present, ou seja, não é necessário nenhum verbo auxiliar. E, claro, observar as possíveis variações com os diferentes pronomes pessoais. Desta forma, estão corretas as estruturas:
I – Was Bob home when you called him?
II – Joana and Timmy wasn’t at the party yesterday.
III – Jonathan and I was good friends at College.
IV – They were here last night.
V – Elliot wasn’t at school yesterday. I think he was sick in bed.
