Why does liquid water have such a high heat capacity?

Choose 1 answer:

(Choice A)

Water molecules are packed very closely together.

(Choice B)

Water molecules are good at forming and breaking hydrogen bonds.

(Choice C)

Water is a nonpolar molecule.

(Choice D)

Water is a linear molecule which makes absorbing heat easier.

Choice B.

Water molecules form hydrogen bonds between each other. These type of bonds are one of the most strong ones that two molecules can form and, because of it's stability, it requires a high amount of energy to break those bonds, therefore it's really hard to heat water.
