Election is any process by which a group designates one or more of its members to occupy a position by voting. In representative democracy, it is the process that consists of choosing certain individuals to exercise sovereign power, granted by the people through the vote, and they must therefore exercise the role of representatives of the nation. The election can take place with the vote of the whole community (universal suffrage) or only a portion of the community, that is, restricted groups of people who fulfill certain economic, social and cultural requirements (restricted suffrage).
