Tubarão – Blue Town
Tubarão is in the Southern part of Santa Catarina and it is a beautiful little town. It is 150 kilometers from Florianópolis, near the sea. The Tubarão River divides the town in two parts, right bank and left bank and six bridges connect these sides of town. The streets acompany the course of the river and the longest one on downtown is Marcolino Martins Cabral. There is a centenary railroad in Tubarão that serves as a means of transport for coal. This mineral comes from the mines of Criciúma and goes to Diamante, an eletricity mill. Its name is “Ferrovia Theresa Christina.”
Our Lady Piedade Cathedral is on the top of the hill, in front of the main bridge. The view from that hill is beautiful.
Many clubs make up the social life in Tubarão, several gymnasiums and stadiums, and two professional soccer clubs, Its medical waters atract tourists during all the year to “Guarda” and “Rio do Pouso”. There are many furniture and clothes factories in Tubarão, a large commerce and a great number of buildings. The downtown is in constant movement because Tubarão is the center for a micro region.
