FUN FACTS ABOUT ROLLERCOASTERS
Russia, 17th century.Water froze over a tall wooden structure and turned it into an ice ramp. Riders would then sit on blocks of wood and slide down the ramp. Rumor has it that other countries tried the same, but it was impossible due to their warmer weather. It was only in 1817 that Parisians decided to add tracks onto a similar structure and also wheels on the sledge. Steel rollercoasters did not exist until 1959, when one was created for Disneyland in California. Since then, a few records have been broken. From the fastest, in Abu Dhabi, reaching the speed of 149 miles per hour to the longest in Japan, covering 8133 feet, people have also demonstrated their passion for roller-coastering, like Richard Rodriguez who, in 2012, rode the “Big One” (which happens to be the tallest rollercoaster in the UK) for 112 consecutive days!
