b. Jane loved her friend in that summer. To love is a regular verb, so add -d to form the simple past

c. Juan and Carla rubbed (?) together when they were children. To rub is a regular verb, so add -d to form the simple past; to be in the past is was for I, he, she, it, and were for you, we, they; Juan and Carla = they, hence the use of were

d. She taught English when she was young. To teach in the simple past = taught

e. Thomas watched TV last night. To watch is a regular verb that ends in -ch, so add -ed to form the simple past
