O significado de There is e there are é “há” ou “existe” para there is e “existem” para there are. O there is é usado no singular e there are no plural.

Na afirmativa devemos usar “There is....” ex: There is a cup in the kitchen or There are two cups in the kitchen. Na negativa usamos “There is not....” ex: There is not a cup in the kitchen” or There or not a cup in the kitchen. E na interrogativa devemos usar “Is There?” Or “Are There?”

Exemplos: Forma afirmativa: There is a lamp in the bathroom! (Há uma lâmpada no banheiro).
Forma negativa: There is not a lamp in the bathroom! (Não há uma lâmpada no banheiro).
