The transitional object is a mediator between mother and son, oneself and the environment, interior world and exterior world. The 'ordinary devoted mother' will permit this object and across it the child will pass from a stage of illusion to a stage of disillusion, from the relationship with the object to the use of it. The passage from the pleasure principle to the reality principle permitted by the good mother through an active adaptation with the child, will facilitate a capacity of a creative playing in a potential space. The game with people where there will exist friends and enemies will only happen through this creative playing. In order that exists a development of the separation-individuation process it is necessary the existence of a transitional object in its healthful shape as something that calms the anxiety. Therefore the importance of the availability of the mother and of the transitional object in order that all the healthful psychical development happens; the importance of a continuity in the care of the child and a consequent confidence in the mother to be well born her absence; and that in the dependency to a direction to independency process the child can continue secure and happy because of this separation or independency of mother and son at the same time. As it doesn't occurs in a healthful way, that is, if the mother or the environment, are not good enough it may exist in the child and later in the adult, of a transitional object being his body and later on an fixed idea. What is more important in all this is that the transitional object exists and that it could be permitted in all its plenitude without interruptions. The process must be carried out up to the end that is, up to the point that the object simply loses its meaning and doesn't remain forgotten or repressed
