Brazil ir world-famous for its Carnival celebrations. Carnival is celebrated all around the country, but the most famous celebrations happen in Rio, Bahia and Pernambuco.
In Rio, the most important event is the Samba School Parade, which happens for four days and involve an official competition among the various samba schools. During the four days of Carnival you can see grups of poeple parading through the streets, playing music and dancing - these are the “blocos” and they are also very popular in Rio.
Salvador is famous for its street Carnival, in particular flr the truks equipped with giant speakers and people follow them singing and dancing.
Pernambuco has a unique Carnival, and “frevo”, a type of music from Pernambuco, is especially popular in that state. Pernambuco’s festivities do not include competitions among parade groups like in Rio or Salvador. Big groups in magnificent parades dance side by side with other improvised groups. There are well-know groups with funny names such as: “Crazy Lover”, “Olinda’s Underpants” and “The Door”.​
