The popularity of social networking is skyrocketing, and people of all ages find themselves
devoting more time to these sites, but is social networking really making your life social?
Nielsen has recently reported that Americans are now spending more time on social networking
websites than on their email accounts. The report noted that Internet users spend around 8.3% of
their time on their email accounts and 23% of their time on various social networking platforms. [...]
People, especially students, can spend hours on different social networking sites, updating their
every move and commenting on what their friends have posted. Constantly being glued to the
computer by yourself doesn't seem very social to me, and it will ultimately lead to people failing to
have successful interpersonal relationships. Just because you have over 1,000 friends on
Facebook to create the image of being popular, but in reality, they don't know or talk to half of their
"friends" on Facebook
I don't think there is anything wrong with wanting to have a Facebook or Myspace, as long as you
are responsible and safe about it. Make sure to never put anything too personal on it, and
remember there is more to interacting with people than talking to them through a computer screen,
