1. Nas respostas usa-se BECAUSE: I'm late because the bus was late. 2. A palavra HOW é combinada com outras para
formar Question words compostas. Observe: How old are you? (pergunta sobre idade) How much is this book? (pergunta
sobre preço) How many students are there in your class? (pergunta sobre quantidade).
Polite and indirect questions
Perguntas indiretas: Esse tipo de pergunta é bastante usado no meio impresso, em jornais e revistas. Observe a
pergunta: RD: There's a saying that it's not your job to fix the whole world; it's your job to do your part. What's your part?
Se fossemos fazê-la de forma mais educada poderíamos dizer: Could you tell me what your part is? Observe que uma
das formas de fazer perguntas indiretas é usar a expressão "could you tell me” seguida pela wh-question. Mas atenção:
a estrutura sofre alteração. Note a posição do verbo! What's (=what is) your part X What your part is Quando usamos
uma Yes/No question empregamos a estrutura com IF: RD: Was your pregnancy with Shiloh intentional? Could you tell
me IF your pregnancy with Shiloh was intentional? Aqui também a pergunta original toma a forma afirmativa.
