A frase interrogativa e a negativa precisam  do auxiliar do verbo " to do "

no simple  past, na maior parte dos verbos em Inglês.

Na negativa o verbo auxiliar é que fica com a partícula negativa

( didn't ).

Na interrogativa o verbo auxiliar começa a frase, seguido do sujeito e do

verbo principal no infinitivo.

Did + sujeito + verbo principal no infinitivo

" Did he think ... "
