VALENTINE'S DAY
On Valentine's Day many people celebrate by giving cards, letters, flowers or gifts to their
spouse, partner or even a friend.
Valentine's Day is not a public Holiday. Even though it's a very popular date for weddings.
In the USA and in some European countries, Lover's Day is called Valentine's Day' and
is celebrated on February 14. In Brazil, the date was changed to June 12- a way to stimulate
shopping at time- and it's exclusive for couples.
The celebration would have originated in ancient Rome in AD 498. Father Valentim fought
against the orders of Emperor Claudius II, who had forbidden any wedding during the wars,
believing that bachelors were better fighters.
For failing to comply with the emperor's Valentim was sentenced to death.
Common Symbols of Valentine's Day are hearts red, roses and Cupid.
