Polar bears live in the extremely cold regions of the Artic, near the North pole. Nothing seems to threaten their existence, but those animals are in great danger. Our climate is changing. Global warming, the increase in world temperatures due to a greenhouse effect from from the burning, of fossil fuels, is not a problem for the future. It is happening now and it has terrible consequences. The effects of global warming are evident Glaciers are disappearing, oceans are rising, extreme weather is getting more frequent. Natural disasters like heat waves, droughts, floods, storms, hurricanes, even tsunamis are getting more common now. In the Artic the effects are dramatic and disastrous. Scientists say that the Artic is warming at least twice as fast as the rest of the globe, so the Artic ice is melting. The melting of the ice results in serious loss of habitat for the areas' wildlife. Because seabirds and mammals like seals, walruses and polar bear are gradually losing their habitat, they are threatened with extintion, and extintion is forever.
