Antes de criarmos a oração, vejamos o que é o Past Continuous e como se dá sua formação:

O que é?

 → O Passado Contínuo ou Past Continuous tens a finalidade de referir-se a uma situação a qual estava a ocorrer no passado. 

Sua formação: 

 →  O P.Continuous é formado por: 
   Passado Simples do Verbo To Be + o " Ing " ( gerúndio ) do verbo principal.

                  Was / Were 

Uma de suas finalidades: 

 →  Sua principal finalidade é descrever uma ação ocorrida em um determinado momento no passado.
