1The last Olympic Games were held in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, officially known as the Games of the XXXI Olympiad, or more commonly as Rio 2016.
It was an international multi-sport event, held in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, between the August 5 and 21, 2016, although the group stage of the soccer tournament began on August 3 in the women's branch and on August 4 in the men's branch. The XV Paralympic Games were also held in that city, between September 7 and 18 of the same year.
The Olympic Games held in Brazil will go down in history for being the first to take place on South American soil
