the story of Jotaro Kujo, the grandson of Joseph Joestar. Jotaro is a problem student who keeps getting into fights at school and antagonizing his teachers.

He is put in prison after fighting with three armed men and a boxer, but refuses to leave saying that he is possessed by an evil spirit. To demonstrate, he takes a gun and shoots himself in the head, but the bullet is stopped. Joseph Joestar soon arrives with his friend Mohammed Avdol. A battle between Avdol and Jotaro shows Avdol's evil spirit, taking Jotaro out of the cell. Joseph reveals that Jotaro's “evil spirit” is actually a Stand, a psychic manifestation of power. The Jotaro Stand, called Star Platinum has incredible strength and precision; Avdol's, known as Magician’s Red, can control the fire; Joseph's Stand, Hermit Purple manifests several vines with spines that allow Joseph to manipulate cameras and other devices, capturing images from a long distance

Joseph reveals that Jotaro's Stand and his own Stand have recently manifested due to the resurrection of Dio Brando. When he went to the bottom of the sea, Dio stuck his severed head to Jonathan Joestar's body, using the energy of his new body to stay alive. However, Jonathan's body blood connected Dio with the rest of the family, so when Dio started to develop his own Stand, Joseph and Jotaro succeeded too. Dio vows to destroy the Joestar family and sends a student, Noriaki Kakyoin to get rid of Jotaro. Kakyoin's Stand, Hierophant Green has the body of a nurse and attacks JoJo with his Emerald Splash ability, however, Jotaro manages to defeat him. Soon it is discovered that Holy developed a Stand. Her Stand looks like a vine that grows from her body but she doesn't have enough fighting spirit to control it, due to this, the activity of the Stand starts to kill slowly. Joseph and Avdol determine that unless they eliminate Dio in fifty days and break their influence on the Stand, Holy will die. Jotaro analyzes Joseph's photo with Star Platinum, helping the two as well as himself to discover that Dio is somewhere in Egypt. Kakyoin, freed from Dio's mind control, decides to help the group.

On a plane, the group is ambushed by an insect Stand called Tower of Gray, forcing Kakyoin to prove that he is reliable. Jean Pierre Polnareff, user of the Silver Chariot swordsman Stand, challenges Avdol in Hong Kong but is eventually released from Dio's control, so he decides to join the group to avenge his sister. Our heroes take a boat to Singapore, but are forced to fight the Dark Blue Moon Water Stand, controlled by an assassin who murdered and usurped Captain Tenille, then he sinks the ship. Accompanied by a girl who was running away from home, the group arrives in an abandoned frigate, but soon discover that the entire boat is a Stand called Strength and the same is controlled by an orangutan. Devo the Cursed uses his Ebony Devil Stand to try to eliminate Polnareff in Singapore, Rubber Soul and his Yellow Temperance pose as Kakyoin to try to eliminate Jotaro. In Calcutta, they meet the duo Hol Horse, user of a pistol stand called The Emperor and J. Geil, a man with two right hands and user of the Hanged Man, a light stand that attacks through mirrors. Polnareff avenges his sister by eliminating J. Gail, his killer, but Avdol is apparently killed by Hol Horse, who flees the scene. Joseph is infected with a blister that reveals himself as Empress, a stand controlled by Nena. But Joseph manages to defeat with great difficulty. On the way to Pakistan, the group fights against Wheel of Fortune, a ZZ-controlled car stand. Enya Gail, J. Geil's mother tries to use her Stand, Justice, in an attempt to avenge her son by sending an army of undead after Polnareff and Jotaro. In Karachi, Steely Dan uses Lovers to hold Joseph hostage, forcing Jotaro to act as his personal slave. Arabia Fats, the Sun user, tries to trick the group in the desert of Saudi Arabia, but is discovered and easily defeated. Soon, the group finds itself under the responsibility of carrying the baby Mannish Boy, who uses his Stand, Death Thirteen to attack them in their sleep. Only Kakyoin managed to see the truth behind Death Thirteen's dream worlds. On an island in the Red Sea, Polnareff is on the verge of death by the genius Stand, Judgment. But Avdol returns and saves the day. Avdol gets a submarine, but the vehicle is infiltrated by the terrible High Priestess, a Stand controlled by Midler that can take the shape of anything metallic; however, the power of Star Platinum shows a simple but effective counterattack.
