It is a treatment system for overweight and obesity, aimed at weight loss and dietary reeducation, which consists of the introduction of an inflatable silicone balloon into the stomach by endoscopy, associated with mild sedation. Right after its introduction, the flask is inflated with about 500 to 700ml of saline stained with methylene blue tincture. The purpose is to reduce food intake by decreasing the stomach's reserve capacity, inducing an early feeling of fullness. It is a simple procedure and performed on an outpatient basis. No hospitalization is necessary and the patient is released approximately 30 minutes after the procedure.
The Orbera Intragastric Balloon can stay for up to 06 months (with manufacturer's warranty). Balloon removal is also performed endoscopically, on an outpatient basis and with mild sedation, that is, the intragastric balloon is a non-surgical method and without the need for general anesthesia or hospitalization, aimed at the treatment of overweight and obesity.
