sorry idk how to explain in english, but basically:

A to B is one tone, and B to C would be halftone, but because has de sharp on the C and the C "go up" halftone, A to C# will be 2 tones.

C# to D will be half tone and D to E one tone, so C# to E will be 1 and a halftone.

A major chord have "first" the 2 tones and after the 1 and a half, so its a major chord! And the first key is A so its a A major chord.
