I understand it from two different way, one of them is like growing up, just the same way as the fruits! And the other way is to recycle and help the environment more them usually

The expression "going green" means that someone is going to become more environment friendly, in wais to reduce pollution and become more consciouns about the importance of preserve.

Because of that, a lot of people become to worry about the envinroment, by reducing the garbage from their own houses and alerting the other about the importance of thinking that way, to preserve to the future generations.
