Passado Simples do Verbo to be

O passado do verbo to be nada mais é do que o uso do passado simples, que é um tempo verbal que fala sobre uma ação que ocorreu no passado e não ocorre mais no presente da fala proferida, mas com o verbo to be sendo usado em suas duas formas nesse tempo verbal, que são elas o was e o were.

Na tradução, temos que was e were significam era/foi ou estava, sendo assim, temos que o seu uso irá depender exclusivamente do sujeito da sentença.
