Want More Tech in The Classroom

Students and teachers like technology and want more of it in the classroom, according to new research published this week by CompTIA, the information technology industry association.

CompTIA’s report, The Changing Classroom: Perspectives from Students and Educators on the Role of Technology, found K-12 students believe that technology in the classroom makes education interesting and more fun. Teachers were in agreement. Three-quarters of educators reported they see positive or very positive effects of technology when applied to education. Among those effects were better communication and collaboration between parents and educators.

Unsurprisingly, the report also found that 96 percent of teachers under the age of 34 (also known as millennials) believe technology plays an important role in the classroom.

Both students and teachers recognized the importance of learning technology skills to ensure success in their future careers. 9 in 10 students said using technology in the classroom was important in helping them to get them jobs.
Students also cited a number of technology skills they would like to learn more about in school.

• Gaming simulations (cited by 52 percent of stu-dents)
• Computer troubleshooting (49 percent)
• Programming/coding (45 percent)
• Apps for audio and music making (43 percent)
• Mobile apps (43 percent)
