The construction of the active and passive voices in English is quite similar to that in Portuguese. The active voice implies an agent that effects an action, whereas the passive voice implies an action that is effected by an agent. Examples of a same clause in both voices, active and passive:


1) Active voice: Peter threw the stone;
     Passive voice: The stone was thrown by Peter;

2) Active voice: George bought the house;
     Passive voice: The house was bought by George;

3) Active voice: Abby did a great job;
     Passive voice: A great job was done by Abby.

Na voz ativa, o sujeito vem antes do objeto, como:
George created a new machine
George é o sujeito, o objeto é a nova máquina que ele criou, mas no passive voice, é ao contrato, o objeto vem antes que o sujeito
