„‟Fool,‟‟ the man said to himself. „‟ That‟s exactly what they want. They want you to be White

with fear. They expect you to run out of this room before the night is over. Make sure no one is

playing a trick on you. Check the whole place,‟‟

First he checked the Windows to see whether they were really closed. He tapped on the walls,

the floor and the ceiling to make sure that there were to secret chambers. He looked into the

cupboards,on top of the wardrobe, under the bed _ not a trace of anything suspicious

anywhere.

He felt much safer after that, but as a final precaution he locked the door from the inside, stuffed

the keyhole with paper, and pushed the heavy dressing table against the door.Once he was in bed he surveyed the haunted room. All was well, it was Just an ordinary room.

He put the key under the pillow, turned off the bedlamp and pulled the badclothes around him. He

was now in the darkness, exhausted but happy.

„‟Good‟‟, whispered a voice at his car. „‟ We don‟t want then to disturb us, do we?‟‟
