Resposta:

Pink October is an annual campaign held worldwide in October, with the intention of alerting society to the early diagnosis of breast cancer. The mobilization also aims to disseminate preventive data and emphasizes the importance of looking carefully at health, in addition to fighting for rights such as medical care and emotional support, ensuring quality treatment.

During the month, several institutions address the topic to encourage women to take their exams and many even make them available. Initiatives like this are essential for prevention, since in the early stages, the disease is asymptomatic.

Breast cancer is a malignant tumor that attacks the breast tissue and is one of the most common types, according to the National Cancer Institute – INCA. It develops when only a few stretches of DNA molecules are altered, causing the abnormal cells that generate the cyst to multiply.

The movement began in 1990 at an event called "Run for a cure" that took place in New York, to raise funds for research carried out by the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Pink October Campaign

Pink October is an international movement aimed at encouraging the fight against breast cancer. This action started in 1997, in the United States, and has been gaining the world as a way to raise awareness about the importance of early diagnosis and to alert to the large amount of deaths related to this disease.

The symbol of the campaign is a pink ribbon, which was first made by the Susan G. Komen Foundation and distributed at the first race for a cure for breast cancer in 1990. These pink ribbons became popular and were later used to decorate public places and other events fighting for this cause.

In addition to the pink ribbon, many cities began to illuminate their public monuments with pink lights to give greater prominence to the month of fight against the disease. In Brazil, the first sign of sympathy for the movement happened in October 2002, when the monument Mausoleum of the Constitutionalist Soldier, also called the Ibirapuera Obelisk, in São Paulo, was illuminated pink. In October 2008, the movement gained strength and several Brazilian cities were illuminated as a way to draw attention to women's health.
