SOCORRO!!! ADAPTING ONESELF

One day the manager of a well-known hotel in New York was called upon to deal with the complaint of a very nervous, irate lady. “I can’t bear it another minute,” she told him indignantly. “You must tell the man across the hall to stop making that horrible noise on the piano.” And seeing the look of surprise on the manager’s face, she added, “If you don’t make him stop, I will leave at once.”
“I’m very sorry it’s disturbing you,” the manager said patiently. “That’s Paderewski.” It was the lady’s turn to look surprised. “What’s ” she stammered, much embarrassed. “The great pianist Paderewski ”She was silent for a moment. “Well, of course, that’s different. Please don’t say a word to him.”
Two days later the manager overhead her talking to a visitor in the lobby. “It’s so wonderful,” she was saying, “I can open my door every morning and hear Paderewski practise.”
