Objetive : Talk about the life of a German girl abandoned by her mother in the midst of the world.

This book os about Liesel Meminger is told by a morbid narrator, surprisingly nice. When he realizes that the little book-fleet escapes him, Morte becomes attached to the girl and traces her footprints from 1939 to 1943. Traces of a survivor: the communist mother, persecuted by Nazism, sends Liesel and her brother to the poor suburb of a German city, where a couple sets out to adopt them for money. The boy dies on the path and is buried by a gravedigger dropping a book in the snow. It is the first in a series that the girl will sneeze over the years. The only bond with the family is this work, which she still can not read.

Haunted by nightmares, she compensates for the fear and loneliness of the nights with the connivance of her adoptive father, a good-natured wall painter who gives her reading lessons. Literally under the thick sight of her stepmother, Liesel channels urgencies to literature. In times of burning books, she steals them, or reads them in the library of the city's mayor.
