Past Continuous

O past continuous é um tempo verbal utilizado para indicar ações que estavam ocorrendo no passado quando outra ação interrompeu.Veja o exemplo:

Eu estava esperando o ônibus quando você chegou.

I was waiting for the bus when you arrived.

A construção do Past Continuous é feita pela união do verbo auxilar to be conjugado no Simple Past (Passado Simples) + gerúndio verbo principal acrescido de ing. Como o past continuous ocorre junto de outra ação alguns termos são geralmente empregados como : quando - when ou enquanto while.

Assim podemos concluir que o past continuous é normalmente usado para indicar ações que estavam ocorrendo no passado quando outra ação mais recente aconteceu e interrompeu a primeira.
