The artist who painted dreams

There was a boy in Spain who liked to walk in the hills and on the beach. He loved to observe the
trees and the rocks. He always carried paper and pencils and tried to draw all these things.
When he was older, he attended art school, but he didn’t paint like the other artists. He preferred to
paint things from his imagination and dreams.
His name was Salvador Dalí, and he was a famous painter. In the beginning, people laughed at his
paintings, but after some time they appreciated his original work. Dalí said that dreams are real to a person
who is sleeping, so why can’t an artist paint what he sees in his dreams?
Look at this painting. Its name is Sleep. Dalí painted it in 1937. It shows the head of a dreamer that is
supported by 13 crutches. The delicate equilibrium of the figure indicates that if you move just one crutch,
the dreamer will wake up. With this work Dalí wanted to demonstrate the fragility of the state of sleep.
