{- 2x + y = - 4

Adding them: (do it like below.)

           3x  - y = - 2

  +     - 2x + y = - 4

             x + 0 = - 6

Rewriting,

x = - 6

Substituting in the first equation:

3x - y = - 2

3(1) - y = - 2

3 - y = - 2

3 - y + 2 = 0

5 - y = 0

5 = y

y = 5

Therefore, the solution to this system is $\displaystyle \left \{ {{x=-6} \atop {y=5}} \right.$.
