The Native American Culturies


In 1492, Christoher Columbus called Indians the first natives he encountered on the island. Of Hispaniola,  believing he had reached the East Indies.

The original Indian settlers that inhabited what now is the United States arrived tens of thousnds of years ago from southeast Asia, probably across the Bering Strait at the end of the  Ice Age. They themselves gradually dispersed over the North and South American continentes.

They formed small bands, but some tribes had 1,000 people or more. The Indians that lived in western coastal área were mainly fishers. The Great lains Indians such as the Cheyennes, the  Sioux and the Apaches were basically hunters. The eastern Inians belonged to tribes of 30,000 inhabitants. The received a deep influence from  the highly developed Aztec civilization.
