Too many fathers

Two American sailors were staying for a few days in Sweden while their ship was

being unloaled.

One Sunday they decided to go church. As they knew no Swedish and were not

very accustomed to going to church, they decided to do exactly the same as the

gentleman who was sitting in front of them did. When he sat, they sat. When he knelt,

they knelt. During the service the pastor made a special announcement and the man in

front of them rose. The two sailors immediately did the same. Everyone in the

congregation began to laugh.

When the service was over and they were greeted by the pastor at the door, they

discovered that he spoke English and naturally asked why everybody had laughed. Oh,

said the pastor, I was announcing a baptism, and I asked the father of the child to

stand.
