Mom and Dad took us to New York City for vacation last Christmas. My dad had told us about a neat restaurant, the Fanelli Cafė, which he had been to a few times when he was in college. He hadn't been there in many years and couidn't remember how to get there. So he tried to ask dozens of folks for directions. However, everyone seemed to be in a big hurry, and they all said they couidn't help us Finally, aftor about five minutes, we found a Inendly stranger who helped us get to the Fanelli Cafe.

This man was so helpful. He said it was a piece of cake to get to the Fanelli Cafe from where we were. He told us to go to the 49th Street station, which was only a short walk away, and take the subway. We needed to take the "N” train to Prince Street, and once we let the Prince Street station, we had to turn right. He said that we only had to walk one block and we would see the red Fanell Cate sign on our ieft, across the street, His airections were pertect and we arrived at the Faneli Cafe with no problems.

The Fanelli Cafe was a cozy place, and the food was excellent. Our waiter, Hank, told us all about its history. Hank said that it was built in 1847. It was a grocery store until 1865, and then it became a restaurant. But it wasn't called the Fanelli Café until 1922, when a man named Fanelli, obviously, boughit it. Since then, it's becomo a tradition for several generations of people living in and visiting New Yark City.
