In Canada there are two variants of the national anthem – French and English.
In the years when Canada was still a British colony "God save the Queen" was performed in all the official ceremonies. But there was the song "Maple leaf forever," composed in 1867.
But during the preparations for the annual holiday of Quebec renowned local composer Calixa LaValle created the national song of francecanada – "Oh Canada!".
It was written by the author on Adolphe-Basil's poem. The anthem was performed for the first time on 24 June, 1880.
On June 27, 1980, "O Canada!" became the official national anthem of Canada.
