is an action-adventure video game developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE). Released worldwide on April 20, 2018 for the PlayStation 4, it is the eighth title in the God of War series and also the eighth in chronological order, being a sequence of events that occurred in God of War III (2010). Unlike previous games, which were loosely based on Greek mythology, this title is loosely based on Norse mythology, with most of the time situated in ancient Norway in the kingdom of Midgard. For the first time in the series, there are two main protagonists: Kratos, the ancient Greek war god who is accompanied by his young son Atreus. After the death of Kratos' second wife and mother of Atreus, they travel to fulfill their promise to spread their ashes on the highest peak of the nine kingdoms. Kratos keeps his troubled past a secret from Atreus, who is unaware of his divine nature. Along the journey, they encounter monsters and gods from the Nordic world.
