Some American tourists were spending a few days in Rio. Some of them undertood Spanish, but very few were able to speak Portuguese. George, a young student of Latin languages at the University of Columbia, was proud of his knowledge of Portuguese and decided to go to a restaurant by himself. It was George's first visit to Brazil and he was eager to practice his Portuguese with the ''cariocas''. It was almost luchtime and George felt hungry. He didn't have enough Brazilian money to pay for a meal, but he had his credit card. He left the hotel and walked for a few minutes until he found a nice little place to eat. The restaurant seemed OK, but it was crowded and there weren't enough tables for everyone, so he hat to wait a while. Finally he found a free table near the kitchen. He was going to ask for a menu in English but then he realized that it was an excellent opportunity for him to test his knowledge of the local language. He looked at the menu. There were a lot of dishes with complicated names, but George hat no difficulty in finding the name of that famous Brazilian dish: ''feijoada''. He didn't eat much (there was too much salt in the beans) and after finishing his meal he decided to practice his Portuguese. He took a small dictionary out of his pocket and looked up the word ''how''. Naturally he found ''como''. Next, he looked up ''much'' and found ''muito''.
''This is really easy'', he thought. ''I can't understand why so many Americans find Portuguese difficult.''. The waiter was near him, so George beckoned to him and asked him with a smile, ''como muito?''

Ele estava indo para pedir um menu em Inglês, mas depois percebeu que era uma excelente oportunidade para ele para testar o seu conhecimento da língua local. Ele olhou para o menu. Ele deu um pequeno dicionário de bolso e olhou para cima a palavra '' como ''. Naturalmente ele encontrou '' como ''. Em seguida, ele olhou para cima '' muito '' e encontrado '' Muito ''.'' Isto é realmente fácil '', pensou. '' Eu não posso entender por que tantos americanos encontrar Português difícil. ''. O garçom estava perto dele, então George acenou para ele e perguntou-lhe com um sorriso, '' como Muito?
