Os tempos contínuos  (para aquelas ações que pretendemos informar que decorreram durante um certo período de tempo) usam o verbo TO BE + o infinitivo do verbo principal + ING. Se é PAST CONTINUOUS, o verbo TO BE deve estar no SIMPLES PAST:
I/SHE/HE/IT          WAS   ...ING
YOU/WE/THEY     WERE ...ING

1) My wife andI were working a lot last year.
2) They were living abroad for ten months.
3) The dog was eating all the food in the box.
4) I was going to the storelast week.
5) My family saw what was happening. / My family was seeing what happened. / My family was seeing what was happening.
6) The boy was waiting until 12:00.
7) We were having some water to drink.
8) You were watching the movie,
9) The teachers were asking the students the test.
10) I was having a lot of fun.
11) The girl was seeing the car there.
12) I was going there when I had the time.
13) We were stopping here.
14) They were spending all the money.
15) You were felling sick that day.
16) I was liking the book.
17) You were liking the song.
18) I was liking the party.
19) I was going to school.
20) She was living in Minas Gerais.

N.B.: relativamente aos nrs. 16, 17 e 18 - verbo TO LIKE - não usamos, de forma geral, no tempo contínuo. Normalmente, ele seria substituído pelo verbo TO ENJOY, ex: I was enjoying the party.
