Explicação:

Eu mudei o "very quiet" na primeira frase, pois ele entraria como modo.

A frase "we spoke very quiet" em português, ficaria "nós falamos muito quieto" (que não faz tanto sentido).

Já "we spoke very quietly", ficaria "nós falamos muito quietamente", que acaba fazendo mais sentido.
