On 22nd August 2017, Brazilian president Michel Temer issued a decree abolishing RENCA (National Reserve of Copper and Associates), an Amazonian reserve created in 1984. Given the repercussion, Temer subsequently withdrew his initial decree, and re-issued it with a clarification on protections for indigenous territory and conservation areas. However, on 30th August a federal judge blocked it, stating that the dissolution of RENCA could only be done by Congress.
