O uso do verbo to be no passado.
No presente do verbo to be (ser e estar) teremos 3 formas (AM, ARE, IS), enquanto que no passado são só duas (WAS, WERE). No presente são apenas duas traduções (sou e estou), mas no passado são três (era, estava e fui).
Passado (WAS – WERE)
I was (uôz) – Eu era, eu estava, eu fui
You were (uôr) – você era, você estava, você foi
He was (uôz) – ele era, ele estava, ele foi
She was (uôz) – ela era, ela estava, ela foi
It was (uôz) – isto era, isto estava, isto foi
We were (uôr) – nós éramos, nós estávamos, nós fomos
You were (uôr) – vocês eram, vocês estavam, vocês foram
They were (uôr) – eles eram, eles estavam, eles foram.
Assim como no presente, no passado para fazer uma negação, acrescentamos a palavra NOT e para fazer uma pergunta, passamos o verbo para a frente do sujeito.
EX.:
I was at home last night. (Eu estava em casa ontem `a noite.)
I was not at home last night. (Eu não estava em casa ontem `a noite.
Was I at home last night? Yes, you were. (Eu estava em casa ontem à noite? Sim, estava.)
É comum usar a forma contraída “wasn’t” no lugar de “was not” e “weren’t” no lugar de “were not.”
