NEWS The Guardian | Tuesday, April 12, 2005 We can fend for ourselves - DPI Head President of the local chapter of Disabled Peoples International Geoge Daniel, has said that his group will not allow able-bodied people to represent it in future. "No organization dominated by able-bodied people can reopresent or speak for our community," he said at a news conference held at DPI headquarters on Wrightson Road, Port-of-Spain, yesterday. Daniel's comments echoed those of representatives of other organizations. A group called the Consortium for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities declared itself the umbrella organization for the disabled community Merle Khoza, president of Disabled Women's Network, supported Daniel, saying disabled person were the best to articulate the issues facing them. "Who better to say this than the disabled persons themselves?" she asked​
