Para formar frases afirmativas no Simple Past, com os verbos irregulares, é necessário acrescentar -ed, -d ou -ied.

She washed the dishes (passado).

Para fazer perguntas, coloca-se o "did" na frente e o verbo na forma base.

She washed the dishes (afirmativa).

Did she wash the dishes (interrogativa).

A negativa segue o mesmo modelo das interrogativas, só que sem o "did". O "didn't" é colocado entre o sujeito e o verbo.
