Modal verbs (must/should)

Os verbos modais, ou modal verbs, em inglês, são utilizados junto de outro verbo, para atribuir sentido indicando a modalidade. Eles podem indicar:

  • capacidade
  • habilidade
  • possibilidade
  • permissão
  • probabilidade
  • entre muitos outros.

Alguns dos verbos modais possuem sentido muito parecido, mas distinguem no uso conforme graus de formalidade exigidos/apresentados no contexto.

Regras de uso:

Os verbos modais são utilizados sem o TO, e nunca são flexionados.

Em frases negativas o NOT vem depois do verbo.

Em frases interrogativas o verbo modal antecede o sujeito.

Nas frases em questão, o verbo modal MUST indica obrigação, enquanto SHOULD indica conselho.
