Present Continuous:

Nós usamos o Present Continuous (Presente Progressivo ou Continuado:)

→ Para ações que estão em progresso ou está acontecendo agora, no momento. (today, this second / month / year / century) e.g

→ Para ações que vão acontecer num futuro próximo. Nós frequentemente mencionamos quando (today, tonight, tomorrow, this afternoon, on Sunday, next Friday etc.). e.g On Tuesday I’m working at home.

Regra Geral: Formação: verb To Be (present) + main verb + ING-form

I am studying English.


Exceptions: (Exceções:)

1. Deve-se retirar o “e” dos verbos terminados com essa letra antes de acrescentar o “ing”. e.g She is taking the child for a walk now.

2. Deve-se dobrar a última letra dos verbos monossílabos ou terminados em CVC (consoante, vogal, consoante) cuja sílaba final for tônica antes de acrescentar “ing”. e.g He is swimming on the lake.

3. Deve-se substituir o “ie” dos verbos terminados com essas letras por “y” antes de acrescentar “ing”.

e.g Look! This flower is dying.


Nas formas interrogativa e negativa, faz-se a mudança utilizando o verbo auxiliar (verb To Be).

e.g Af: They are painting their faces.

Int: Are they painting their faces?

Neg: They aren’t painting their faces.
