Explicação: existem dois verbos que você usa pra pretérito aqui: "was" e "were". Was é usado com "I (eu)" "He/She (ele/ela)" e "it". Were é usado com "they (eles)" "you (você/vocês)" e "we (nós)". Também há a forma negativa dos dois verbos sendo was -> wasn't e were -> weren't. Se was significa "estava", então "wasn't" é equivalente à "não estava", como por exemplo na 3: "Thomas isnt at school" -> Tomás NÃO está na escola -> Thomas wasn't at school -> Thomas NÃO estava na escola.
