My school dream
by Rose

When I get really nervous about something, I have the same dream. I’m 23 years old and it’s my first day as a history teacher. I’m teaching a large class of 12-year-olds. I’m feeling excited and also a little scared. But I’m determined to be positive and to enjoy my first day. However, as soon as I walk into class, I start feeling worried. The children are all sitting at their desks and smiling at each other, but nobody says anything. They’re being too quiet, but why?
I’ve decided to start the class with a vocabulary game. So, I pick up a pen and write a long list of questions on the whiteboard. I put the class into two teams and we play the game. It’s a good way to start a new class, and everyone is having fun. I start feeling more relaxed, but then everything changes.
At the end of the game, I start cleaning the board … but the writing won’t come off! What’s the problem? Then I look in my hand – the pen I’ve used is a regular pen, not a special pen for the whiteboard! If you use a regular pen on a whiteboard, it doesn’t clean off. I feel very embarrassed and I start blushing. Then the whole class starts laughing. The children have played a joke on me, and now they can’t stop laughing. I have to continue the rest of the class with no whiteboard. It feels like the longest hour of my life!
