Street art

Street art is the any form of art ‘in the streets’, that is, in public spaces. Graffiti and other forms of art on walls (or other surfaces) are the most typical type of street art, but it also possible to find 3D expressions of street art (these are also called urban installations).

What makes street art different from other types art is that, in general, street art involves an illicit type of work. Other types of art in public spaces (for example, sculptures and monuments) are usually sponsored by the local government.

Street art is very important form of art expression in today’s world, and this movement is receiving the attention of art museums around the globe. From May to August 2008, the Tate Modern in London hosted an exhibition on street art including work from artists from Italy, Spain, France, the USA, and Brazil.
