Paralympic Sports History

The Paralympic Games began in Britain, shortly after the end of World War II. Dr. Ludwig Guttmann, a well know neurologist, began using sport as a vital ingredient in veterans such as rehabilitation of spinal card injuries in Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Britain. Over time, sports rehabilitation has evolved into recreational sport and then to the competitive sport. The first Paralympic Games were held i Rome, Italy in 1960, and attended by 400 athletes from 23 countries.
