COVID -19 and the climate
Professor Petteri Taals, World Meteorological Organization (WMO), secretary-general said there was a drop of gases emissions of 6% that’s unfortunately (only) short-term good news.
In reference to a 5.5 to 5.7% fall in levels of carbon dioxide due to pandemic that have been flagged by leading climate experts, including the center for international climate research.
It happened because some industries have been stopped.
On April 22nd, 2020, WMO indicated that carbon Dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere rose to a new record last year. There were 18% higher from 2015 to 2019.
The forecasted fall in carbon emissions is mirrored by decreases in levels of common air pollution from car exhausts and fossil full energy, such as nitrous oxide (N20) particles.
We can see change in air quality in major cities and industrialized regions, in several parts of the world.
